Levels

In the Satyananda tradition there are different levels.

All classes include postures, breathing and relaxation that are appropriate to the different levels.

GENTLE YOGA: helps you get to know your body’s strengths and weaknesses as well as becoming aware of how to switch off. This level is suitable if you are new to yoga, or if you want your yoga to be easy, light and gentle.
Yoga Nidra is introduced at this level.

GENTLE / CONTINUATION: you begin working with sequences such as Surya Namaskar (Sun Salute), some more challenging postures, breathing practices and meditation.

CONTINUATION CLASSES: When you're ready you move to this level where the postures get stronger and work is at a deeper level with Pranayama (breathing)& meditation.

ADVANCED CLASSES: at this level you start working with strong classical postures, meditation, mudras, bandhas and Chakras.

MEDITATION is introduced in continuation classes and there are many techniques.

MUDRAS are gestures which impact posivitively on attitude, awareness and concentration. BANDHAS are muscle locks which act on knots of energy, releasing prana (ie energy /life force.)

CHAKRAS are part of the yogic physiology. Through regular practice you become aware of your energy field and centres in great depth.

HANDOUTS are provided at the different levels as the classes progress so you can enjoy yoga at home and make it part of your life.
